What Is an Articulated Boom Lift?
An articulated boom lift has multiple pivot points on the boom sections, which let users get to areas that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to reach. You can easily identify an articulated boom lift by its distinctive shape. Genie®Z® articulating boom lifts provide the ability to lift up, over and out with precise positioning for ultimate versatility in hard-to-access work areas. Genie introduced the articulating Z-boom in 1985 with the Genie Z-30/20 model — a product that launched the company into the rental segment. These aerial lifts gained incredible popularity due to their unique “up-and-over” capabilities to navigate obstacles at height.
Since our first articulating Z-boom was launched, we’ve expanded our lineup to include electric models for quiet, emission-free operation; hybrid electric-diesel machines; heavy-lifting Xtra Capacity™ models; models with four-wheel drive; and much more.
Articulating vs. Telescopic Boom Lift
Whether you choose an articulating boom lift or a telescopic boom lift, you’ll get easy access to elevated work areas. But there are important differences between the two machines. In general, an articulating boom lift is the right choice when work areas have obstacles or barriers that can’t be navigated with a telescopic boom lift. If you need the maximum combination of both height and reach, telescopic booms offer more horizontal outreach than any other aerial platform.
